Spring is the ideal time for a family visit to the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. It’s outside of downtown, perfect for a getaway from the more touristy areas.
It’s a hikers delight and a much less crowded place to view cherry blossoms. Without the Tidal Basin crowds, you can get a perfect family photo or just enjoy the flower’s beauty. It also host the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum, where they have over a hundred different bonsai from all over the globe. The museum can be crowded at times, but the bonsai help bring a peace and serenity lacking in other Smithsonian institutions.
The other unusual spot is the National Capitol Columns. A perfect family photo opportunity waiting for you. The Arboretum also gives kids a place to burn their energy while mom and dad enjoy the scenery.
The National Arboretum definitely must be on your list of what to see in Washington, D.C. this spring!
