Today the National Air and Space Museum opens “Artist Soldiers ” exhibit. This marks the United States entry into WWI and showcases the combat soldier’s creative artistic expressions in the face of total war.
This exhibit is seen in three unified sections.
Professional art from illustrators embedded with American Expeditionary Forces
Individual soldiers creating art which is seen in sketches, trench art and artifacts.
And exquisite photography by Jeff Gusky showing hidden underground carvings in French limestone quarry walls.
This exhibit will be on view through November 11, 2018.
Also see the permanent WWI aviation exhibit “Legend, Memory and The Great War in the Air”. Its just down the hall and develops the WWI story in other ways.
