Early Cherry Blossoms This Year

Will you see the cherry blossoms this spring before they’re gone?

This mild winter has the cherry blossoms well ahead of their normal schedule. The National Park Service’s peak bloom prediction is March 22-25.

Crowds continue to rise each year. Taking a great photo with the cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin gets harder and harder. But it is possible.

Here are three of our tips for photos this year:

1. Focus on your family and friends. Use the blossoms as a backdrop rather than the focal point.

2. Accept the crowds. People are doing interesting things around you. Capture them too.

3. Different angles. Most photographs are taken at eye level. Go on the ground or reach above your head for more interest.

Buy a postcard if you want picture perfect cherry blossom photo. Focus on documenting your trip and the human subjects around it.

That’s a better memory for you and your kids.
