It’s time to shake up your Thanksgiving routine this year. Instead of sitting on the couch all weekend, pack your family in the car and head to DC to visit a museum.
Here are our top picks for exhibits to see next weekend. One is even open on Thanksgiving Day.
1. The Megiddo Mosaic- Museum of the Bible
This beautiful mosaic is the earliest known archaeological find calling Jesus God- dating back 1,800 years. It’s a beautifully preserved piece of art history displaying Christian faith. Come see this work of art with an eternal message.
After visiting the mosaic, you can view more artifacts of Christianity in this multi-floor museum. See Bibles across the ages in The History of the Bible on the 4th floor or walk through a mini recreation of Nazareth on the 3rd.
Hours: 10 am-5 pm daily
Closed Thanksgiving Day
2. Bond in Motion- International Spy Museum
For those of us who dreamed of being a spy or just love cool vehicles, this exhibit is incredible.
- Featuring 17 iconic vehicles from James Bond films
- It feels like stepping into Q’s garage alongside 007
- Admission might cost a few quid, but you probably paid as much to see the movie
You can get tickets for this exhibit alone, which costs less than those for the entire museum. Or, if you want to experience the whole thing, you can add Bond in Motion tickets to your regular admission.
Hours: Visit their website
Closed Thanksgiving Day
3. Paris 1874: The Impressionist Moment- National Gallery of Art
There’s limited time remaining to see the impressionist artwork that’s never visited these United States. Save the cost of flying to Paris to see these masterpieces and visit the NGA instead. You can view paintings by Monet, Cezanne, Morisot, and more, which may not have been together since 1874.
This exhibit is dark to capture the feeling of viewing the art with oil lamps like the original exhibition would have had. But only a few rooms away, you’ll find the light-filled Impressionist galleries with dozens more beautiful paintings on permanent display.
Hours: 10 am-5 pm daily
