These three museums are the most popular for a reason. They’re interesting and accessible for all ages, perfect for curious kids and parents.

National Air and Space Museum
Airplanes and space exploration are cool, and we got from one to the other 66 years. See that history starting with the Wright flier all the way to the Apollo 11 capsule.
Explore the museum on your own, or try a free guided tour. Volunteers love sharing their knowledge and excite kids to learn more.

National Museum of Natural History
The perfect museum for kids who love to collect nature, containing the biggest collection of them all. See dinosaurs, gems, and butterflies that reflect God’s crazy design.
And if you go on a Tuesday, you can get into the Butterfly Pavilion for free! See our full guide to that here.

National Museum of American History
Connect with your family’s history with stories for everyone. Colonial times to today is on display, tracing America’s founding and growth.
See the original Star Spangled Banner that defiantly flew over Fort McHenry and inspired our national anthem. Then go to the Price of Freedom exhibit to learn about the men who fought to uphold that ideal.
All three are conveniently located within walking distance on the National Mall, and all are free. Visit and make family memories this weekend.
For more info and hours, visit each museum’s website. Air and Space still requires free timed passes for entry, but the others can be walked in anytime.
