The <a href=\"https:\/\/whattoseeinwashingtondc.com\/index.php\/2023\/10\/21\/our-top-exhibits-for-families-at-the-air-and-space-museum\/\">first galleries<\/a> opened in 2023, and this summer, five more will be on view again. Here you can see some of the most important air and space crafts in history. On view are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Friendship 7- The capsule that completed America&#8217;s first orbit of Earth, piloted by John Glenn.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Bell X-1- Chuck Yeager first broke the sound barrier in this iconic aircraft.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Apollo Lunar Module- The first spacecraft to land on the moon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"667\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/whattoseeinwashingtondc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DSC08391.jpg\" alt=\"Pioneers of Flight\" class=\"wp-image-1253\" style=\"width:543px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whattoseeinwashingtondc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DSC08391.jpg 667w, https:\/\/whattoseeinwashingtondc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DSC08391-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/whattoseeinwashingtondc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DSC08391-370x555.jpg 370w, https:\/\/whattoseeinwashingtondc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/DSC08391-410x615.jpg 410w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2) Pioneers of Flight gallery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This classic aviation exhibit showcases groundbreaking aircraft from the 1920s through 1930s. Military aviation began only five years before the Great War began. Learn the origin of technology like forward-facing guns, propellers, and high-altitude flights in an open cockpit.
