But I would recommend it for fathers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Philip lost his father to suicide when he was 10. Guston&#8217;s artworks reference this tragedy repeatedly for over 40 years. His father&#8217;s absence is always felt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guston began with representational art, then moved on to abstract expressionism. He returned to representationalism to protest the injustice he perceived in America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guston&#8217;s Marlboro show met nearly universal rejection from art critics. Most of his work is from this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m not a fan of much of the art in this show. But the lesson of perseverance and productivity after rejection is worthy of emulating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Philp Guston Now&#8221; is on display March 2- August 27, 2023.
