{"id":958,"date":"2024-04-06T12:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-06T17:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whattoseeinwashingtondc.com\/?p=958"},"modified":"2024-04-05T11:28:54","modified_gmt":"2024-04-05T16:28:54","slug":"remembering-wwi-with-a-new-memorial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whattoseeinwashingtondc.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/06\/remembering-wwi-with-a-new-memorial\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembering WWI with a New Memorial"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One hundred and seven years ago, we entered WWI when Congress declared war on Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The terrible effects of this war resulted in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. It also gave us the DC War Memorial built by local Washington DC residents to honor local casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, a new monument bronze sculpture is being installed at the Pershing Park, across the street from the White House.
