Exploring the Revolutionary War Weekend at Mount Vernon

George Washington yearned to return to Mount Vernon through the long eight years of the War for Independence. But he was only able to visit once.

Don’t be like George and let eight years pass before deciding to visit Mount Vernon.

Especially when this weekend, you can see something our first president never got to. His army camped outside his home.

Visit Mount Vernon for Revolutionary War weekend and see:

  • Rows upon rows of tents
  • Campfires burning
  • Military maneuvers in the field
  • Officers on horseback
  • Sutlers selling food, drink, and supplies
  • Washington’s war tent
  • Church service with the Continental Army on Sunday

There’s far more to explore than on a normal visit. Younger children can meet soldiers and ask any questions they have. Older kids can learn the more technical side of how our army functioned.

Pick up a Mother’s Day present, taste colonial foods for a morning snack, test your skills at making rope, and hear the crack of musket fire and the sounds of hundreds of marching feet.

It’s an immersive experience for kids and adults alike.

Revolutionary War weekend is May 3-4, from 9 am to 5 pm. For tickets and the complete weekend schedule, visit Mount Vernon’s website.
