Udvar-Hazy Center Turns 20! 3 Reasons You Should Go

The Udvar-Hazy Center turns 20 this Saturday, December 2nd. To commemorate the occasion, they’re hosting a free celebration perfect for a fun family field trip.

The Udvar-Hazy is a branch of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum located in Dulles, VA. It lacks the polish of the DC museums, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth a visit. It has hundreds of artifacts, from planes to pop culture pieces, on display.

But why attend this Saturday rather than any other? Here are three reasons.

#1: Free Parking

While the museum itself is free to enter, parking costs $15. The parking lot is clean, safe, and well-lit, making it worth the money. But if you can park for free, why not?

#2: Behind-the-Scenes Tour

One of the highlights of the Udvar-Hazy Center is the restoration hanger. Kids can look through giant windows into the hangar, where specialists restore classic planes (and the occasional movie prop). But for their birthday, they’re allowing visitors to tour inside the hangar itself. This is a can’t-miss opportunity for aircraft lovers of all ages.

#3: Fun Activities

Throughout the day, kids can participate in fun, hands-on activities such as making airplane banners and a paper airplane contest. It’s a great way to keep kids engaged and get them interested in the wonder of flight.

All this and more are great reasons to check out the Udvar-Hazy Center this Saturday. Help the museum celebrate 20 years and inspire your kids at the same time.
