Enjoy Mount Vernon’s Revolutionary War Weekend

War breaks out at Mount Vernon this weekend- and you’re invited to participate.

Saturday and Sunday are Mount Vernon’s annual Revolutionary War weekend. During this event, you can step back in time and experience life during this tumultuous time in American history.

For two days, the Mount Vernon estate will be full of:

  • Marching men
  • Fife and drum music
  • Officers on horseback
  • Cooking fires
  • Camp followers
  • Sutlers selling goods
  • Washington’s war tent

Besides seeing soldiers and camp followers, there are events to attend, such as 18th-century dancing and tactical war demonstrations. At 2:30 pm on Sunday, you can experience a Continental Army church service.

Sutler

For those still needing a Mother’s Day gift, check out the 18th-century sutlers (someone selling goods to the army). They have sixteen different vendors selling a variety of goods, so you’re sure to find a great gift.

This event requires ticket purchase ($35 for adults, $22 for youths). But you can get in free as a member. Buy an annual family membership when you arrive at Mount Vernon and enjoy free visits and events throughout the year. It’s your best value.

Soldiers

Parking is free and right across the road from the estate. There are also plenty of bathrooms and benches for little ones to take a break.

Enjoy a colonial lunch, buy a Mother’s Day present from the abundant vendors, and experience a colorful living history encampment at Mount Vernon.
