Advent is a time of anticipation as we remember Christ’s birth and look forward to his coming again. Part of this includes revisiting the circumstances leading to the miracle of the incarnation.
As you celebrate Advent this month, here are three free Christmas activities to do with your kids in Washington, DC.

1) The Christmas Story in Art- National Gallery of Art
This free discussion explores how different artists portrayed Christmas across the centuries. You’ll learn about symbolism, techniques, and historical context from senior lecturer David Gariff.
Takes place on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm. Sign up here.
2) Messiah Sing-Along- Kennedy Center
Join in with the heavenly hosts proclaiming God’s praise as you sing along with Handel’s Messiah. Conductor Nancia D’Alimonte leads the audience, orchestra members, and a choir in an event dating back to 1971.

3) Nativities of the World- The Franciscan Monastery
This beautiful monastery puts on an annual display of nativity scenes from around the world for free in its lobby. See how different cultures portray Christ’s birth, as well as the history of the monastery itself.
