Revisiting Apollo 8 In Honor of the Artemis II Mission

With Artemis reviving public interest in our return to the moon, will it also drive attention back to the marvel that was the Apollo program?

You can remember the success of Apollo 8 at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum here in Washington, DC. It was our first deep space mission to the moon and back that we’re reliving today.

Apollo vs Artemis

With Frank Borman, Bill Anders, and Jim Lowell’s deaths in 2023, 2024, and 2025, it’s a fitting tribute to be recreating their accomplishment of orbiting the moon in 2026. It feels like only an incremental step after 58 years rather than a leap forward, but it’s a start.
