Celebrate Independence Day with The Family at The National Archives

Visit Washington DC for the 4th of July and see the Declaration of Independence with your own eyes at the National Archives.

Travel back in time with their dramatic reading of the Declaration at 10 am. As you sit on the steps outside, you’ll be transported back to 1776, when the document was originally read aloud throughout the colonies.

From 10-4, you can also enjoy:

  • A performance by the Fifes and Drums Corps
  • Meeting important Revolutionary War figures like George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Abigail Adams
  • Signing your own version of the Declaration
  • Front row seats on the Archive steps to the National Independence Day Parade
  • Make your own 4th of July flag
  • And more

And while you’re at the Archives, don’t forget to see:

  • The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution
  • The Magma Cart which proceeded both
  • The Emancipation Proclamation which fulfilled them

Visit The Archives’ 4th of July website for more details.

And while the National Archives Museum is closed, the Rotunda remains open to display the Declaration, the Constitution, and Bill of Rights.
