Coins at Museum of the Bible: Why They’re Important

You’ve heard of the shekel, talent, and denarius from the Bible.

But do you know what they look like?

Coin display at Museum of the Bible

You can currently find a collection of ancient coins from Israel on display at the Museum of the Bible. They cover 2,000 years of Jewish history, from Egypt to Herod.

Coins may seem like an insignificant artifact, but they reveal so much about the world at the time. They tell us what was important, valued, and bought.

When you see these coins, what do they tell you? How do they reveal who’s in charge? Why did the design change so often back then?
