After an icy, cold winter wrapping up, we have a 2026 peak Cherry Blossom prediction for Washington, D.C.
But the National Park Service and I are forecasting different peak bloom times. The National Park Service is predicting March 29-April 1.
My guess is April 2-5. Who will be right? We’ll have to wait and see.
What’s New?
You’ll see a fresh look around the Tidal Basin this year. The NPS has completed the new seawall and sidewalk reconstruction since last year’s festival.
Japan has given us another gift of cherry trees this year for our 250th anniversary celebrations. These replace the older ones removed for the reconstruction efforts, including the beloved Stumpy.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival itself kicks off on March 20th and runs through April 12th. Visit their website to learn more and keep an eye out for when the peak bloom will happen.
